Welcome!

Welcome Drs. Aaron Schwartz and Katherine Schwartz Hicks-Courant, who moved to Lancaster in July 2022 with their 4-year-old daughter, Dina.

Aaron grew up in Bryn Mawr and attended Swarthmore College, where he met his future wife Katherine. Katherine grew up outside of Boston. Both subsequently attended medical school in the Boston area.

They moved to Lancaster for Katherine’s job as a gynecological oncologist at the Penn Medicine Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute. Aaron works as an assistant professor at the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy, where he is a medical health economist at the University of Pennsylvania. He also does primary care medicine at the VA Hospital in Philadelphia, taking the Amtrak train to Philadelphia a few times per week.

DIna attends the preschool at the New School Montessori and she attends Temple Beth El’s Preschool on Sundays.

The Schwartzes are happy to be a part of the Temple Beth El family, having attended an independent synagogue in Boston. They purchased a home in Lancaster Township, and are glad that they get to see Aaron’s parents in Bryn Mawr several times per month, and Katherine’s Dad, who moved to the Lancaster area.

In his free time, Aaron likes to bicycle. They hope to be able to cross country ski again, which was easier to do in New England with its greater snowfall. And Katherine is hoping to raise chickens, both for the eggs and the fun of it!
